Done, done, DONE!!!

The awful hazing ritual has ended! I am now done with the GOEs. Today's questions were not quite as bad for me. The kicker was that for the final question we received an email five minutes before the test telling us that it wouldn't be posted electronically and that we needed to go get a hard copy from our administrator. When we went, he had gone home! So we had to track down someone who'd already gotten a hard copy and then find a copier since the one in the library is broken. It was amazing! You would have thought they'd have it together by the last one.

We spent the evening at a friend's house toasting and having dinner. It was nice. Tomorrow it's back to the grind since I have lots of field ed stuff to catch up on as well as quite a bit of pre-reading for J-term which starts in a week. But for tonight, I'm relaxed and sleepy and oh so thankful to have survived.

Set 6: Theory and Practice of Ministry

The parents of a young woman who was murdered in the shootings at Virginia Tech in April, 2007, are still deep in mourning. She was their only child and was a gifted student. As their pastor you helped them plan the funeral and then were the officiant at the service. Now, much later, the parents are questioning you about God's presence with them, most especially asking how God can allow such a tragedy. They are desperately trying to find answers in their time of grief.

In a three-page essay:

A. Identify and explain the major theological issues raised for you in this situation.

B. In light of these issues, what pastoral counsel would you offer to this couple and what other resources would you commend to them?

Set 7: Liturgy and Music

I can't post the last one because it wasn't sent to us, but it was all about hymns. We were given a set of propers and then had to go through Eucharist service and talk about all the places where hymns are allowed and what function they serve. Then we had to pick hymns for the service that day and then write a commentary about why we picked what we picked and what they meant theologically and etc. It was not a hard one for me, but it took a long time because I am very SLOW in picking hymns.

It is all done now. And there has been much rejoicing!
